New Mexico MVD Direct is part of an overall customer service strategy to empower New Mexico MVD customers to conduct their business with the division in the most ways possible. These kiosks are one of the many options provided by MVD that make it easier to keep current on registration renewals.

Simply scan the barcode or enter your information manually.

The ATM-like machine will accept your payment and print your registration and license plate sticker on the spot!

You can renew your registration if your insurance and emissions are current.

You can renew any time. You do not need to wait to receive your registration renewal to renew. Late fees will be assessed if you renew after your expiration date.

Along with your renewal cost and any late fees (if applicable), there is a $3.95 service fee for every vehicle renewed at the kiosk. Additionally, there is a 2.3% credit card processing fee.

If you choose to renew online or in the field office, there is a $1.55 credit card processing fee.

Kiosk customers do receive the 5% discount off the base registration fee. This discount is not available in field offices.

Your particular base registration fee is automatically determined based on class of vehicle (passenger, farm, commercial, trailer, etc.), age of vehicle, and weight.

Your total cost to renew includes other legally mandated fees, such as a highway beautification fee, a tire recycling fee, a mandatory financial responsibility fee, and an administrative fee. By law, MVD cannot apply the 5% discount to these other mandated fees.

Credit and debit cards are accepted at all locations. Cash payments are accepted at select locations.

Cars, trucks, motorcycles, and off highway vehicles. Boats, commercial vehicles, and fleet vehicles cannot renew through the kiosk.

Simply scan the barcode located on the outside of the renewal notification postcard between the New Mexico return address and the First-Class postage or scan the barcode on your current registration. You can also use the touchscreen to type in the last six numbers of your VIN plus your plate number, or type your full VIN plus your ZIP code, or enter your control number and your ZIP code. The control number can be found on the registration renewal postcard or is located in the audit field on your current registration.

You may want to bring your current registration or your registration renewal postcard and of course, a payment method.

At this time the kiosk can process vehicle renewals. In the future, the kiosks will be capable of additional transactions like providing driver records, and paying citations or other payments that are due to MVD.
